Today for generation z and generation alpha, their virtual spaces and avatars are as real as real life itself. For them, there’s not much difference between attending a concert on Fortnite or attending it in a physical stadium. More so, the pandemic has accelerated the adoption of the metaverse at all levels and at an unprecedented speed.

But in this massively scaled network that is made up of billions of users interacting at all fronts, communication becomes of critical importance and localization would be key.

From entertainment to edutainment, gaming to conferencing, leather wallets to digital wallets, technology has not only advanced us a civilization but it has also bridged the gap between reality and virtuality. Localizing the metaverse starts by localizing ideas. And that is what we do.

In our latest podcast below we take a look at the future, and how the metaverse and the web 3.0 are set to change the way we experience life and connect with each other. For the millennials it would be a difficult transition into this new virtual world but for the younger generations, they were born into it. Also we look at localization as an important and critical role in making the metaverse a friendlier place to navigate. We invite to listen to our podcast on Spotify or watch it on Youtube.

The food and beverage industry is experiencing a massive transformation triggered largely by cloud kitchen concepts and online food delivery platforms. Businesses who can’t adapt to this change will have a hard time staying afloat. On the bright side, this transformation opens up a great opportunity for those who know how to adapt. When your F&B business model operates primarily through the cloud, scaling it becomes a simple matter. Today, a cloud based F&B brand operating in the UK is able in a few weeks to operate in the UAE. But being able to export a brand to the middle east does not guarantee success. As a matter of fact, what makes it or breaks it is the brand’s affinity and proximity to the Arab consumer. Having affinity and proximity with Arabs needs impeccable communication skills and of course in Arabic. Localizing F&B starts by localizing ideas. And that is what we do.

According to a study conducted by PWC, digital spending will account for the majority of revenue of the media and entertainment industry. The global digital spending will reach 50% of total revenue by the year 2024,. In the MENA region, digital spending will reach 45%. These numbers are huge, which is a strong indication that Arabs are consuming digital content exponentially.

Furthermore, the pandemic has accelerated the adoption of streamed video and audio content in the MENA region. It has also boosted the popularity of online gaming even further. Arabs are hungry for content and both global and local players in the digital media and entertainment sector are short of supply.

Also, the education sector has pivoted dramatically during the pandemic. Educational institutions were forced to quickly move into the online space and adapt their curriculums to online learning. This accelerated the edutainment sector especially for younger students that have trouble concentrating in a home schooling environment.

The need for Arabic digital content is growing, yet the supply is still much lower than the demand. Consequently the entry point to the MENA market for international content producers is through localization. Listen to our podcast below to learn more about the state of digital content and the opportunities of growth in the Arab world.

Healthcare has changed tremendously in recent years. The industry shifted from a provider centric business model to a patient first model. And this shift came with amazing technologies that allowed patients to be more informed and in control of their health. And with a growing health-tech marketplace, finding a spot inside the patient’s mobile phone has become a challenge to healthcare providers in the MENA region.

But how can a health-tech product appeal to an Arab audience?

Well, the doctor patient relationship for Arabs is very personal, as doctors are seen as part of the family. So by developing health-tech products that are personalized and that speak the patient’s language, healthcare providers are able to attract and convert an Arab target audience.

Localizing healthcare starts by localizing ideas. And that is what we do.

So how can a crypto currency or a marketplace establish trust with the Arab consumer?

Well, transparency is key but more importantly you need trustworthy communication. All that crypto jargon has to resonate with the target audience; it has to speak their language.

In the Arab world, when giving your word is more important than any contact, then the choice of words becomes absolutely crucial to building trust.

So if you are a crypto brand wanting to attract an Arab target audience, then localizing the crypto’s philosophy, its use, the marketplace, the information resources as well as producing original localized content are key ingredients, essential for success.

Localizing crypto starts by localizing ideas and that is what we do.

History of Arabic LocalizationThrough history, both human communication and the evolution of Arabic Localization using expression and dialogue were regarded as the main trigger for the elevation of human civilization. The use of writing through newspapers followed by photography, enabled communication to shift beyond. Reaching the 20th century, which was the dawn of media after the invasion of radio and film (TV) where people had the chance to see what others across the world looked like. Both, considered the most powerful aids of communication, source of information and entertainment. They made their way into homes becoming immensely a major component in everyone’s daily life routine. With a late, came the Internet, the latest assertive of all mass media linking the globe.

Globalization vs Arabic Localization

In today’s world of globalization, and with the expansion of broadcasting audiovisual sector. People are on daily basis coming in contact with films, TV programs, music and video games, many of which originated in foreign countries and with different languages. To make this contact possible and efficient, screen translations were used. Later on, came dubbing, one of the screen or audiovisual forms of translation, which involves the replacement of the original speech by a voice track. It attempts to follow as closely as possible the timing, phrasing and lip movement of the original dialogue. This became the upcoming trend. Pushing thus, translation, adaptation and localization in the US and Europe to their highest apex for the good of global interaction.

The Ages of Localization

Meanwhile, in the late 70s, the Middle East, distant from localizing foreign content, came Nicolas Abu Samah, a renowned Lebanese film director, introducing “Arabic dubbing” and establishing his own company FILMALI in Lebanon to eventually become the first entity of the region that kick-started the industry of dubbing in Arabic to the Arab world. Hence, and for the past four decades, FILMALI, followed by DeafCat Studios, a company established in 2006 due to the expansion of services offered. Hence, fully determined to provide consistently the highest quality of localized productions and services. Deafcat Studios, specialized in Arabic VO recording, Arabic translations, dubbing into Arabic, Arabic voice over, music production, 2.0 and 5.1 mixing as well as mastering. However it gets a little bit complicated when the delivery date is very short and when the script is not available. The last voice over project I got from a small production house in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) and it was quite a fun [...]

After that, we had to translate the script from English to classical Arabic and then we had to find out the right talent to do VO. After recording the scripts, the mixing engineer did a fantastic job mixing the voice over with the original audio track so that all the videos had a uniformed master track. Taking on small projects like that is always fun because you never know what you might expect but most importantly because the studio can cater to the needs of smaller production houses with limited budgets.
